What happened

Malaysia and Thailand have joined Singapore's BLOOM project, a cross-border payment initiative coordinating the use of stablecoins and tokenized deposits among financial institutions. BLOOM's stated goal is to reduce costs for banks and regulated entities moving money across borders. The expansion brings three of Southeast Asia's most active financial markets into a single institutional payment framework.

BLOOM was already operating in Singapore. Adding Malaysia and Thailand means the project now spans jurisdictions with meaningful trade and capital flows between them. The work is at the active development stage, not live settlement.
