Singapore flags Hyperliquid; APAC DeFi scrutiny tightens
What happened
Singapore's Monetary Authority (MAS) has added Hyperliquid to its Investor Alert List (IAL). Hyperliquid is a decentralized derivatives exchange operating on its own Layer 1 blockchain, offering perpetual futures and other derivative products without a centralized intermediary.
The IAL is not a ban. It is a public warning list that flags entities MAS believes may be dealing in capital markets products without the required authorization. Appearing on it signals that MAS views the platform as operating in regulatory gray territory relative to Singapore law, and that retail and institutional users in Singapore face heightened risk engaging with it.
This marks a notable extension of IAL use. Historically, the list targeted clearly fraudulent schemes or unlicensed centralized operators. Applying it to a major DeFi derivatives protocol suggests MAS is no longer treating decentralization as a regulatory shield.

This matters for Philippine and APAC operators because it validates Singapore as the institutional-grade custody jurisdiction for regional treasury operations, and it gives compliance-conscious operators a credible counterparty argument when boards or auditors push back on crypto treasury strategies.…Market · Singapore
