Binance-Circle deal reshapes USDC stablecoin strategy
What happened
Binance has acquired a $100 million equity stake in Circle, purchasing 1.24 million shares at $80.84 each. Alongside the investment, the two companies have signed a five-year promotion agreement. Under that agreement, Circle pays Binance a monthly fee tied to the volume of USDC held through Binance wallet infrastructure. Binance becomes, in effect, a paid distribution partner for USDC, incentivized to push USDC adoption across its platform.
This is not a technical integration announcement. The infrastructure relationship likely already existed. What changed is the financial structure: Binance now has a direct revenue interest in growing USDC balances on its platform, and Circle has locked in the world's largest exchange as an aligned commercial partner for five years.
