Gokongwei takes PhilWeb chair; AI pivot signals new direction
What happened
Lance Gokongwei has been appointed chairman of PhilWeb Corp following the resignation of Crisanto Alcid from the chairman and CEO roles. Alcid resigned on Thursday, 28 August 2026, and remains on the board as a director. Gokongwei has publicly signalled an intention to roll out AI capabilities across the PhilWeb business.
PhilWeb is the dominant B2B infrastructure provider for Philippine online gaming. Its client base sits directly beneath PAGCOR's licensed operator layer, meaning any strategic shift at PhilWeb propagates quickly across a wide portion of the Philippine online gaming supply chain.
