What happened

Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has launched a live distributed ledger technology platform for tokenized bonds and sukuk. The platform records ownership and transfers of tokenized securities and connects directly to RENTAS+, Malaysia's real-time gross settlement system, to settle corresponding payments in central bank money. This is a production system, not a proof of concept or regulatory sandbox exercise.

RENTAS+ is BNM's upgraded central securities depository and payment infrastructure. Settlement in central bank money means finality is backed by the sovereign balance sheet, eliminating the counterparty risk that sits at the center of most private tokenized asset experiments.

  2. BPI stablecoin pilot changes crypto cashier calculusBank of the Philippine Islands launching a stablecoin payments pilot for OFW remittances legitimizes the rails that iGaming operators have been using through less regulated processors, and signals BSP comfort with bank-grade stablecoin settlement. When the country's second-largest bank builds this infrastructure, it gives operators a credible, BSP-visible deposit and withdrawal option that third-party VASP processors cannot match on regulatory defensibility. Position your cashier team to evaluate BPI-adjacent stablecoin options as they become commercially available, because onboarding a bank-grade rail now is cheaper than defending a grey-market processor relationship when the next BSP circular arrives.
  3. BLOOM adds Malaysia and Thailand; APAC stablecoin rails widenMalaysia and Thailand joining Singapore's BLOOM cross-border stablecoin and tokenized deposit project extends institutional payment infrastructure across three of Southeast Asia's most active financial markets. The practical effect is that regulated, bank-grade stablecoin settlement corridors between Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand are now under active development, which accelerates the timeline for operators who use regional treasury or intercompany settlement flows across those jurisdictions.…Regulatory
