Two Suppliers, One Format: The Color Game Just Became a Real Battleground

Evolution built a studio in Cebu. Pragmatic just launched a competing title instead. When two tier-one suppliers independently commit to the same localized format, that's a signal worth reading, not a coincidence worth skipping past.

What happened

Pragmatic Play has launched Color Game Bonanza, its take on the Philippine Color Game format, directly for the Philippine market. This puts Pragmatic in direct competition with Evolution, which moved first with Super Color Game back in May 2025, backed by a physical production studio in Cebu. Both suppliers are now offering competing versions of the same culturally rooted format.

Why it matters

Both suppliers independently identified the Color Game as a high-conversion format for Filipino players and moved to own it. That's the real signal here, localized content in the Philippine supply chain has moved from a nice-to-have differentiator to a genuine competitive battleground between global tier-one suppliers.

The two companies are taking different approaches to defending that position. Evolution anchored its bet with physical infrastructure, a studio in Cebu, which gives it a structural production advantage for future Filipino-format titles beyond just this one. Pragmatic is responding with product alone, at least for now, no announced local production capacity to match. Whether that infrastructure gap actually matters commercially depends on a question the market hasn't answered yet: how much of a title's conversion advantage comes from the underlying game mechanics versus the authenticity that comes from genuinely local production.

For operators building a live casino lobby, this creates a real procurement decision. Both versions draw on the same source format, so differentiation will come down to details, RTP configuration, multiplier structure, side bet options, and ultimately actual player retention data once both are running. Any exclusive access arrangement signed with either supplier right now concentrates supply risk at exactly the moment the format itself is still being proven out.

For content aggregators, the calculus is more straightforward: carrying both versions makes sense, and picking one exclusively risks leaving player segments who prefer the other on the table. The broader pipeline signal is worth noting too. When two tier-one suppliers commit to the same format within months of each other, mid-tier studios tend to follow. More Filipino-format titles across multiple aggregator catalogs is a reasonable expectation from here.

What to watch

Player conversion data from operators running both titles in parallel. If one version pulls meaningfully better session length or GGR per player, that will reshape procurement decisions fast and push the trailing supplier to iterate.

Whether Pragmatic announces a dedicated Philippine studio or local production capacity. Evolution's Cebu investment is a structural move. A matching infrastructure response from Pragmatic would signal the localization race is escalating beyond product into physical operations, a materially bigger commitment than a single title launch.
